I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A stand-alone prequel novella to More Than Music.
Keyboardist Kyle Cross may look like a bad boy with his tattoos and piercings, but he’s really the good guy who’s always stuck fixing his band’s problems and never gets the girl. His band is competing in a college Battle of the Bands, but when their bassist doesn't show, Kyle must track her down with the help of the person he least expects: his ex-girlfriend Alexis Monroe.
Kyle hasn’t seen Alexis since she dumped him in high school, and she’s dropped her preppy image for fiery red hair and a bold new attitude to match. With only hours before his band goes on stage, Kyle has to be a little bad if he wants to win both the Battle and the girl he's never gotten over. But when their old problems resurface, the good guy might just get his heart broken all over again.

***

"How can I move on, when I am still in love with you?"

Maybe, the lyrics from The Man Who can't be moved could describe what Kyle felt for Alexis. Kyle was the guitarist of UCL's band, Villain Complex. This band was created by him and his older brother, Jade. Unlike Jade, Kyle is a good guy who just can fall for one girl. Otherwise, Jade is a playboy. He could play with every girl's heart without thinking any further.

Since the first time, Kyle still stuck with his ex, Alexis. That-red-hair-girl still in Kyle's heart and no one could be like Alexis. Then, it came the day when Villain Complex compete in a band competition. Surprisingly, Kyle could meet Alexis there. Of course Kyle didn't expect this kind of thing would happen. In the beginning, Kyle try to avoid Alexis. He knew that his heart is not ready enough to meet Alexis. But then, Becky, the bassist of the band, is disappear. She hasn't come yet and everyone was worried because of that. With the help from Alexis, Kyle try to pick Becky up and really want to make the performance would be the best.

Well, actually I don't really have any intentions to read this novella. Someday, I enter some YA giveaway that held by... oh, dear. I forget who held that GA. Then, I agree to receive any newsletter from the YA authors. after that, there are some newsletter from Elizza Briggs and, yeah, I got this novella. I red this novella because I want some light reading. Well, reading a YA book of course make me happy because I don't need to give much attention. I just read it for fun.

Reading from the boy's point of view is a quite new for me. I think that the lead character would be a girl, and surprisingly is not. I have to admit that Briggs is good at this point. Yeah, Kyle felt like man when I red the story. Even though I have admit to that in someway there are some girly side in Kyle. No offense. About Alexis, well, I like her eagerness to make Kyle believe that he has to grab some chance to change.

The story itself is quite simple. I think, for light reading, it was quite good. I know that this book is quiet cheesy romance story, but why not to read it? Come on. This is just novella. Just try it in your spare time, guys!

Sincerely,
Puji P. Rahayu
