Hello, there!
Finally I can show up with Top Ten Tuesday again. Okay, I have to inform you that more or less 10 days ago, I went to Meranti Island, Riau Province. I went there to conduct my research about food security and environment. I really glad because I could visit Meranti Island. In there, I learnt many things from the society. The problem was, in Sungaitohor village, there was a limited electricity and phone's signal. So, It would be obvious that I skipped to write TTT for two weeks.
Now, because I have back to Jakarta again, I would like to share my opinion about ten books that would be on my classroom if I were a teacher.
Disclaimer! Not all of the books that I mention below ever I read before. It's just my imagination if I were a tecaher.
1. Harry Potter and International Relations by Daniel H. Nexon and Iver B. Neumann
If you are an International Relations student and love Harry Potter, I think that this book would be suitable for you. Me as an International Relations student very curious about this book. As long as I being an IR student, I often see that many scholars try to relate Harry Potter and world politics. So, I think if I were a teacher, especially at IR department, I would add this book as one of reading materials.
2. Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder
Okay. I would admit that I hasn't finished yet to read this book. One of the factors is I am too lazy. Sigh. But, actually I didn't regret to read this book. In Sophie's World, Jostein Gaarder invite us to understand philosophy and history from the simple way. A little by little, I could understand about history from Sophie's perspective. I think, any history teacher should add this book to their shelf.
3. The Economics Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained by Niall Kishtainy
Do you want to know more about economy? I think you should read this book. The first time I saw this book, honestly I fall in love. The cover and illustration is so eye-catching. Moreover, the language is understandable. Maybe, someday I would like to search the hard copy one and reading it carefully.
4. The Ethnographic I: A Methodological Novel about Autoethnography by Carolyn Ellis
When I did my task about ethnography three months ago, I accidentally found this book. Honestly, I like the way Ellis write her book. I could understand fast about what are her saying. Moreover, Ellis try to explain ethnography with novel format. So, this book is not boring anymore.
5. The Science Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained by Adam Hart
If in number three I mention The Economics Book, in number five I would like to say the The Science book is good for Science and Technology student. Actually, I've never know the contain of this book. But, I am sure that this book would help a lot for Science and Technology student. The illustration is eye-catching and also interesting.
6. Little House Series by Laura Ingalls Wilder
As a student, I think we should understand about the survival of life. Also, I think that student has to understand about life lessons. So, this series would help a lot. The first time I read this novel, I think I want to be like Laura. Her family is so warming and also full of love. Her parent's struggle to make their family happy has to be appreciated. I want to re read again.
7. Sherlock Holmes Series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
To sharpen the logic and analysis, I think Doyle's work would really helpful for student. Holme's ability to figure out about person's identity is really amazing. Without we are realizing, actually that ability could give more benefit for us when we meet someone. So, I really recommend this book should be on teacher's book shelf.
8. Supernova Series by Dee Lestari
The parallel world and any kind of about life should be interesting for high school student. Supernova is one of the best book in Indonesia. Actually, I am not sure if this book could be a good reading material. Many debates come around this book. But, I believe that this book would be interesting for reading material in philosophy class.
9. Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell
In my opinion, we should know how to be a success person from the very first start. Okay, I should honest that I haven't read this book yet. Yeah, Shame on me. But, I believe that this book is a good book and I am not patience to read this book.
10. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
No reason needed. Yeah. If you have potterhead teacher, you should read this series.
